Setting up YouTube strict search

First off, YouTube should not be considered the same as TV. YouTube is completely unregulated, meaning anyone can upload a video called “Kids TV show” then load it with inappropriate material.

TV may have some garbage, but the content creators have to jump through many hoops to have their content approved for broadcast:

Over 300 hours of footage is uploaded to YouTube every minutethat’s over 12 days. So there’s clearly no system that exists that can filter that volume of footage quick enough.

But, as with Google Safe Search, you can set up some level of Parental Controls. My view is that it’s a slippery slope (the platform is designed to keep offering up new videos) so treat YouTube with caution.

Parental controls and settings

You can access parental controls and other settings at any time by following these steps:

  1. Tap the Lock icon  in the bottom corner of any page in the app.
  2. Read and enter the numbers that appear or enter your custom passcode.
  3. Select Settings .

Your kid can also control some settings. Learn more.
